A Black Swan event

black-swan-eventThe phrase “Black swan” derives from a Latin expression; its oldest known occurrence is from the 2nd-century Roman poet Juvenal: “a rare bird in the lands and very much like a black swan.”  When the phrase was coined, the black swan was presumed not to exist.

What is a black swan event?

“The event is a term used on Wall Street that refers to a rare and unpredictable occurrence that is beyond what is expected and has severe consequences. It’s derived from European explorers who had previously thought that all swans were white and only white, as that was all they knew. They were overcome with shock and confusion when (1400 years later) Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh discovered the existence of black swans in Australia.”  Source: Jack Kelly, Forbes

A sign?

Coincidentally, after the stress of the Covid-19 lock down and during the contagion of the Black Lives Matter protests, rare Australian black swans were spotted in the UK on the 10th June 2020 at Crosby Marina, Liverpool.  There’d been there for five or six weeks.

What does this rare bird in the lands mean?  Is it the start of something?  I don’t know.  It’s an interesting sign.  Do the events of 2020 herald the swan song of western freedom?  Not if people wake up and value their liberty.

The birds

Black swans are widely scattered through NZ.  Here’s a photo I took of swans at Lake Taupo.  White swans are not as common.  Ironically, white swans belong to the northern hemisphere and black swans to the southern hemisphere.  Black or white, they’re still swans.  All swans matter.

Curiouser and curiouser – ALICE

Alice on Economist cover

Alice on The Economist cover

Do you think Alice in Wonderland depicted on the New Year 2015 cover for The Economist represents Alice at Cern?  She was depicted standing in front of the world leaders, and two arrows with 11.5 and 11.3 on them. Here’s their explanation; “It’s the 150th Anniversary of Alice in Wonderland. No particular reason for this part of the story to be depicted other than it is recognisable as such,” Daniel Franklin, Editor of The Economist said.

Follow white rabbit

Follow the white rabbit … Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun, And when at last the work is done, Don’t sit down it’s time to dig another one. From Pink Floyd, “Breathe”.

Well, we could take their word for it … but why don’t we follow the white rabbit? The ALICE experiment at Cern stands for “A Large Ion Collider Experiment.” It’s part of the Large Hadron Collider, the biggest and most dangerous machine on Earth.

Here’s their public website: http://aliceinfo.cern.ch/Public/Welcome.html. Here’s a video tour by drone: http://www.techienews.co.uk/9724576/flying-over-alice-cern-video-tour-shot-by-drone/

ALICE is like an underground telescope.  They’re looking for quark-gluon plasma, which scientists believe formed shortly after the Big Bang.  Quarks and gluons are the fundamental building blocks of matter and gluons are said to carry the strong binding force that binds the quarks into protons and neutrons.  They’re looking for all sorts of matter and antimatter ‘conglomerates’, which might come out of the hot and dense quark-gluon plasma.

Why are they looking for it?

It’s a matter about matter.  There’s not a lot of anti-matter around.  Scientists have long theorized that a lot of antimatter was produced during the universe’s inception. It has since disappeared.  If equal amounts of matter and antimatter existed initially, they should have annihilated each other, but they didn’t. Only matter is left behind, and they would like to know why.

What happens when Alice and Anti-Alice meet?

They know there’s something fundamental about the universe that they don’t understand.” In essence, scientists don’t know why the universe exists at all.  They haven’t factored God into it.  They’d get further if they combined science with faith – not faith in Shiva the destroyer, but faith in the word of God.

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.  Hebrews 11:3

What does God say about the looking glass?

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”  1 Corinthians 13:12

These experiments at Cern may open Pandora’s Box.  It’s the place where the New Age meets Physics.  This level of science is the definition of atheism, and they may bring on the wrath of God.  Let’s hope they don’t. It’s a modern tower of Babel, but this time God will do more than mix up languages.

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.  Romans 1:18.
