Have you read the book 1984 by George Orwell? I read it as a teenager, it was a disturbing read. It should be required reading by all.
The people of an oppressive superstate are made to engage in double-think, where their own conscience is replaced with beliefs imposed on them from above.
Winstone, the protagonist, wants the freedom to say that 2 + 2 = 4. But the state says otherwise, tortures him for thought-crime and his individuality is demolished.
2 + 2 becomes 5. “Ignorance is strength.”
Which brings me to Seattle. Seattle has made maths a social justice issue and is going to teach children that maths is oppressive! I thought it was satire when I first heard it but sadly it is true.
I know people don’t like maths – but what the ??? is going on in Seattle! Something’s not adding up, literally.
