This is the smoke from the Australian bushfires that turned skies in the north of New Zealand orange on January 5th.
The hazy cloud of smoke arrived in South America four days later. Sitting at about 6,000 meters (20,000 feet) in the air, the smoke traveled more than 12,000 kilometers (7,500 miles) to reach that continent.
On the day the smoke arrived on January 9th, an interesting sign appeared in Brazil. I don’t think the cloud was part of the smoke from Australia but it’s an interesting sign or coincidence.
